Green transport between Gestamp and Volkswagen: Omida VLS implements SCANIA electric trucks in daily logistics operations
In Września, in the heart of industrial Greater Poland, there is more going on than just the daily exchange of components between production plants. Thanks to a partnership between Gestamp, Volkswagen, and Omida VLS, a fully electric Scania R 400E truck has hit the road between the press shop and the Crafter factory.
A project that would have been considered visionary just a few years ago is now becoming the new standard in sustainable logistics – an example of a modern approach to industrial transport, where technology goes hand in hand with environmental responsibility.
Omida VLS – We Take Responsibility as an Operator
For us, as the operator responsible for transport implementation, this was not only a change of means of transport, but also an organizational challenge. Our task was to integrate the electric vehicle into the existing logistics process while maintaining its reliability and efficiency.
*“This is not just an investment in a new vehicle. It is part of a larger puzzle that we are creating together with our partners. We want to show that the logistics of the future is happening today. This is a real reduction in our carbon footprint and a response to the needs of our customers who are committed to sustainable development.” *
— Szymon Rusztyn, CEO of Omida VLS
The new Scania R 400E in our fleet completes six daily trips on the Gestamp–Volkswagen route. Its batteries are charged exclusively during loading and unloading, ensuring zero impact on daily operations.
This project proves that technology, sustainability, and operational demands can successfully coexist. Our close collaboration with partners helped us smoothly adapt the logistics to new conditions.
Volkswagen – A Leader in Consistent Transformation
For Volkswagen Poznań, the project is part of a broader green strategy.
*“We are consistently developing green logistics, which allows us to reduce CO₂ emissions into the atmosphere and also reduce noise levels. Tests confirmed that with proper planning and partner cooperation, electric transport is not only feasible but also efficient.” *
— Wojciech Olasek, Logistics Director, Volkswagen Poznań
The Scania travels 20,000 km annually, powered by a __624 kWh battery that provides up to 400 km of range per charge. __
“The introduction of a new vehicle into our operations confirms both our strong partnership and our readiness for the shift to electromobility.”
— Paweł Kurzawa, Director of Electromobility, Scania Polska
Gestamp – An Industry That Thinks Long Term
Gestamp, a multinational specialized in the design, development and manufacture of highly engineered components for the automotive industry, views logistics as a strategic element of its operations.
“At Gestamp, we are committed to build a more sustainable future in close cooperation with our customers and partners. Initiatives like this one – combining innovation, sustainability and efficient logistics – are a reflection of how the automotive industry can lead the way in reducing emissions. .”
— Alfredo Rivas, Plant Director, Gestamp Września
The initiative will result in more than 20 tons of CO₂ reduction per year, along with less noise and better transport coordination. Gestamp was actively involved in adapting operations to the new logistics model.
What’s Next?
For us, this is just the beginning.
We’re already preparing to scale up electric vehicle deployment, especially on repetitive transport routes where electromobility is most effective.
*“Not every organization is ready for this shift – it requires more than willingness. It’s about shared responsibility and a long-term mindset. Our role is to deliver – and to lead change in the logistics sector.” *
— Bartosz Kujawa, Regional Director, Omida VLS
Green logistics is no longer the future – it’s here. And while such projects aren’t easy – requiring adjustment, patience, and openness – with partners who take real responsibility, we can make sustainable logistics a daily reality.
